Weekly Pregnancy Update – 27 Weeks

How far along: 27w0d

Baby’s size: 14.8 in., 2.2 lbs., about the size of a papaya.

Total weight gain: Up 1.8 lbs. this week, so up 17.4 lbs. from egg retrieval.  I fear I’m gaining much too quickly all the sudden…  To compensate, I switched out my usual morning muffin/scone for steel-cut oatmeal today, and a skim hot chocolate instead of a latte.  Hey, I’m trying here!

27 weeksStretch marks: The skin on my stomach looks interesting

Sleep: Hit or miss.  Woke up this morning at 3:30 am and couldn’t get back to sleep.  Didn’t help that Eric’s alarm went off at 4 am.

Symptoms/Feeling: I feel large all the sudden.  And hungry all the time.  Did I mention I feel large?  HEHE.  A bit of back pain too.  I purchased the Upsie Belly Support and I LOVE it.  I highly recommend it.  I haven’t been daring enough to wear it at work yet, but I might soon.  So far I’ve been wearing it on the weekends and evenings after work, but not to bed.  It makes my back feel so much better and gives my belly a lift.

Best moment of this week: My appointment last Thursday when I was told I’m finished with cervical checks.  I feel like a normal pregnant lady for once!

Miss anything: I guess just moving however I want.  It seems even putting socks on now is getting more difficult.

Movement: Oh yes!  I’m fairly certain her head is nudging my ribs as her feet are still kicking my cervix.  Such a strange feeling!

Food cravings: I just want food, and lots of it!

Gender: Girl

Labor signs: Other than my cervix at only 1.3 cm I feel pretty good.  Since her feet are down now I don’t feel nearly as much pelvic pressure.  I kind of dread her flipping, but I know she needs to at some point.

Belly button in or out: In, but looking more odd by the day.

Wedding rings on or off: On!

Happy or moody most of the time: I fear the final three months of this pregnancy will be described as moody beyond belief.  Eric’s ‘cake’ rotation came to an end last Friday and now he’s back at the University for the next four months until he’s finished.  I already blew up at him yesterday, as I seriously cleaned the house for 8 hours while he did something on the computer for work.  Why does he assume that just because he is busy with work that he is relieved of ANY and ALL duties at home?  He does NOTHING to help, not even outdoor stuff, as all the lawn care and snow removal is hired.  I work full-time too, and I’m growing him a human!

Looking forward to: June 1st.  I’m so ready for her to be here!

Purchases for baby:  I better cool it for a few weeks and leave a few items on my registry for baby showers 😉

Eric’s reactions:  I fear Eric is going to be too busy during the next three months with work to think too much about me and baby from here on out.  Did I mention one of his co-residents was actually on-call the day his wife gave birth?  Yeah, he just ran up to her room for the delivery and then carried on with work…  Ugh.

  1. Isn’t the end of residency supposed to be easier?! I know Lance scheduled as many easy rotations as possible towards the end!

And I totally agree on the feeling heavy thing. All of a sudden my belly just feels tough to carry around. And unfortunately that will get much worse from here on out!

    1. His last rotation was out of town and was cake, as it was with a private practice. He’s back at the University for his last 4 months though, and there is no easy here, which sucks timing-wise. I don’t really expect to see him much, at all. He goes in at 5:30am each day and will get home, well, probably after I’m in bed most nights. Last night he was home by 8pm though, so that will a nice surprise. And he’s on-call EVERY weekday and every other weekend. Blah.

I can’t imagine how large my belly is going to get. I think I’m in for a shock!

  2. It’s funny how at 27 weeks your baby is the size of a papaya and at 22 weeks I said the same thing…It totally depends on what you’re reading!! Or I guess how ripe the papaya is! LOL You look great!

  3. 25-30lbs is totally normal
Weight gain so you’re right on track! I have 7 weeks to go an I’m up 22lbs from retrieval. The gain was slow going until about week 25 ish. Time is FLYING-
